Disgusted and Annoyed

The Packers followed their 2008 script all over again. Suck at the beginning of the game. Look good for 15 minutes. Lose in a game ending drive. This is the most pathetic packer season I ahve ever watched. Yesterday was the first time I can ever remember choosing not to even watch. I don't even know what happened in the second half nor do I care. This team was an absolute joke this year and because of them we're forced to watch the Vikings act like they accomplished something this year. The Defensive line has been a joke since the days of Reggie White in Green Bay. I haven't seen the threat of a pass rush in 15 years. We have plenty of cap room to grab free agents but we keep doing this draft thing. Drafting good players is nice but it seems like in the past 5 years we haven't drafted anyone who'd be considered a star in the nfl. I think that's a pretty bad track record. I also think this has nothing to do with the whole Favre thing. That situation was what it was and we did what we had to there. It's the rest of the team that sucked. Thanks for nothing Green Bay. We'll see how you look in 8 months. The only thing I have holding me over until baseball season is a slight interest in Marquette Bball but that doesn't even get exciting until March. This sucks.

it starts with the coaching. mccarthy doesn't exude toughness. practicing inside and such breeds pussified packers.

and mccarthy's conservative playcalling all too often gets the pack stuck in a hole, or keeps a game close that the pack should be winning big.

the defense was so good last year and has been atrocious this year, without significant personnel changes. only explanation? COACHING.

I don't know why but I can't blame this one on coaching. Seems like half the devastating plays are a result the players underperforming on the field, not bad play calls. I still think it all comes down to the D-line. Every decent team in the nfl has a good D-line. No secondary can cover guys for more than 5 seconds... I don't care who you got there. Take the Vikings for example. Their team is an absolute joke except for their D-line. Those guys alone are responsible for all of their vicotries. The giants won the superbowl because of their D-line. We have had nothing in terms of pass rush for years. It's pathetic to watch and must be changed. So I guess I'm saying it's Ted Thompson's fault. He's done nothing to improve our worst position during his tenure.

CSU has a big bowl game for you to watch, that will kill an afternoon until spring training

you're right, i'll rephrase that it begins with thompson, then the coaching follows. i think they're both to blame.

the importance of a good D-line was never more obvious than last season. i kept waiting for thompson to do something about it in the offseason. nothing. now it's coming back to kill us. idiot.

still though, mccarthy's group, who haven't changed much since last year, underperforming drastically does say something about the coaching.

this team is way too talented for this to happen. one more year of this and somebody's got to go.

OK I did not read this entry or the comments yet, but I read your poll. My thoughts follow.

The Packers really don't suck that much. We all know from watching the games how many close ones they've lost. I say give it a year. Aaron Rodgers is awesome, I have no doubts he is the future of our team. The biggest thing to blame this year is nothing in your poll - it's both of our lines. And the second thing was the injury factor.

I've been busy at work and haven't followed them as closely as I have in the past, but it seems like Bigby is out every week, Harris lost an organ, the heart of our defense is on IR, as is Cullen Jenkins. I don't know what the fuck is up with James Jones.

It's easy to gloss over these things, but really, how many big injuries did we have last season? I remember one significant injury, and it was Johnny Jolly.

Our interior O-line is garbage and the outside is old. I think Ted Thompson knew this, but not just how bad it was. Favre (ugh) negated this somewhat with the quickness of his release, and the ability of our WRs to make plays opened up our running game last year. Ryan Grant did not come through for us, and his stats are much better than his performance.

I say give them a year. They've seen how the team operates without Favre. The problem is not the coach or GM or QB. It's apparent the pass rush and blocking need help. I think Thompson will work to fix it. But I look at the Packers and try to find holes, and I don't see them in the back 7 on defense, or in the skill positions on offense. It's all about the trenches, and we'll get better there. We'll have some high picks because the Jets will be in the playoffs, and I really think this team is going to be right back in it next season.

But the biggest priority that I hope to see addressed is a pass rush, because over the last few years, Kampman is the only guy who's kept our rush from becoming a laughing stock. If we had any kind of pressure on the QB, no one would be able to throw on our secondary.

It's not one person to blame. Everybody has disappointed this year, from Ted Thompason to Jeremy Kapinos. It was a true team effort to fail.

They'll be back and better next year, Favre distractions aside.

By the way, you could have copied and pasted this article again and it would have fit perfectly with our last game.
